Local Adventures

Lailani AfricaComment

I believe when you commit to your passions, the right people and places will come your way. Today was one of those days. I had an awesome meeting this morning that really solidified my passion for helping local businesses and communities. It motivated to build on my skills to provide great content that helps tells their story. We connect through stories and I am thankful for friends, family, artists and strangers sharing them with me.

After the meeting, we took a detour to Fool’s Gold in San Juan Bautista where we met the owner. She left the corporate tech industry and started her own vintage shop that’s been thriving for 20+ years. I told her I was from Sunnyvale and the city is getting a bit crowded now so I appreciate small towns and local shops like hers. One of the things that she said that stood out was how people come in to check out records and create a beautiful connection sharing their music. I believe art can bind the right souls together. The best part of shopping local is striking up these conversations! That is one of the reasons I love to shop and support local because the ability to meet others and connect. I appreciate all these moments and I do believe people meet for a reason.

Also, I came home with a vintage gold clutch from the 60’s! If you are in San Juan Bautista please visit Fool’s Gold and find some neat treasures for yourself. ☺️

Where is your favorite local store to shop? Any places you would recommend?

In 2017, it was the first time in YEARS I purchased a GA season pass. I was able to relive my childhood + attend their festivals including Red, White & Brews and Winterfest. Now I hear it's going to be even better.

Recently, Great America released a statement about their upgraded food offerings in 2018! Included in their upgrade is a full service Starbucks (YAAS COFFEE!). Other new additions include Sierra Creek Lodge Rustic Family Restaurant, Orleans Candy Kitchen and French Quarter Funnel Cake & Churro Factory where you can treat your sweet tooth to classic sweets from caramel apples, salt water taffies and an assorted flavor selection of funnel cakes and churros. I hear there is an apple pie churro?! Maggie Brown's Smokehouse & Fried Chicken will offer your favorite bbq with a modernized dining experience.

I am excited to hear Great America is updating their park offerings. Sometimes I just want to take a stroll somewhere and Great America is the perfect place to do that (and now with a Starbucks coffee in hand. YUM!)

In celebration of their new food offerings this upcoming season, here's a throwback of Great America's Red, White and Brews Festival. I had a great share of food and drinks. :D

What are your thoughts of the new upgrades at Great America? Will you be visiting this season?

Resolutions: Come at me 2018!

UpdatesLailani AfricaComment

Hello 2018! I'm ready for the New Year. I have a hard time setting resolutions because I feel like I will never stick to them. Although this year, I started early! My main goal going forward into 2018 & beyond is to live more simply and minimalistic. That means letting go of material things that are stacking inside my room, being more financially fit (Example: less random Target shopping - you know what I I-went-to-buy-milk-but-I-came-home-with-new-bedding-dvds-make-up-and-I-forgot-to-buy-my-milk-target-shopping.

3 Reasons Why I Choose to Live More Simply

1. To leave more room for creative endeavors. I won't use my "I need to clean my room before I start on this project first excuse) I believe having a clean room = more productivity. My new environment would help my music, video content and blogging become more consistent.

2. I want to pay off my student loans instead of drown in them. Coffee and eating out adds up! I don't have to buy coffee everyday. It's time to be my own barista. I've been working on my financial goals earlier this year. 2018 is where I lay the law down (I don't need it, I don't need it...)

3. I just want to simply LIVE and enjoy experiences instead of hoarding things I think I will use one day. It's not just about removing material goods, but also the baggage we carry mentally. The past couple years I felt I lost that spark in my soul. I felt spiritually disconnected from art and I'm on my path to find it all over again.

Need some book inspiration?

I love these books! It helped me reflect on my own life to change what I needed. I actually got rid of clothing and things I just didn't need anymore. Of course, I still have more to do! I am trusting the process.

  • The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering & Organizing By Marie Kondo
  • Broke Millennial By Erin Lowry

All in all, I want to do what is good for my soul and help others find their spark! What are your goals for 2018?

Love & Light!

When it's chilly out there sometimes you need a little kick in your drink. Mama always told me honey lemon tea will do wonders. Here's a grown up version with one of my favorite whiskey's from Monkey Shoulder.

  • 1 cup Hot water
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • 3 Cloves
  • 1 oz Whiskey

  1. Use 1 cup hot water
  2. Add 1 tbsp of honey (or adjust to sweetness level)
  3. Squeeze 1/2 Lemon
  4. Add 3 cloves
  5. Pour 1 oz of whiskey (or 2!) :)
  6. Add lemon and cloves to garnish

Enjoy and save to your Pinterest for future reference. :)

Fall Fashion Show 2017

Style & BeautyLailani AfricaComment

This past weekend I covered the Fall Fashion Show  at Eastridge Center in San Jose, CA. The vibes were awesome. I got some giveaways and tried on a nude lip from Urban Decay. Eastridge retailers such as HellaTees, JcPenney, Jenn and local milk tea shop, TeaLyfe attended the event. Models rocked the runway from John Casablancas with makeup and hair by Toni&Guy.
